The Art of Astonishment

May 2nd, 2009

As an event entertainer who uses magic as part of my act, I’m often asked the question, “What is Magic?” or “Is Magic Real?” The answer to the latter lies in the answer to the former.

The Loss of a Loved One

A True Story From 20 Years Ago…
http://www.stonecoldmagic.com/blog/images/deadmustang.jpgI thought it would be safe to leave my car parked on the side of the freeway. As luck would have it, I ran out of gas on the way to work, so I left my Mustang parked on the side of Highway 4 and walked the rest of the way to work. I never thought that would be the last time I drove that car. That night, as my mustang took its last breath, a part of me died with it.

Darn That Ace of Spades

September 5th, 2008

Imagine this: I’m sitting on my throne minding my own business… beside me is my lovely Queen and my Son Jack, and along with Jack is his dear old faceless friend Ten of Spades, or as we call him, Tos. So it’s the four of us… a royal family and friend. I being the King of Spades am in Charge and certainly the most powerful amongst us.

Agree to Disagree

August 28th, 2008

I hate it when people say that! Agree to Disagree. In other words, let’s stop talking, stop entertaining other view points and completely close our minds to other ideas. I just hate that.

Yes, They DO Pay Me For This

August 14th, 2008

There is nothing more satisfying than casually and subtly nailing a heckler… well almost nothing. I mean it’s hard to beat taking a bath in a tub full of chocolate milk while midgets feed you chocolate chip cookies. But besides that, nothing is more satisfying than a good “gotcha” with a heckler.

The Vanishing Mouse

April 2nd, 2008

We are creatures of habit, aren’t we? Everyday we do things that are so common and so rote that we forget that we’re doing them. You are in such a routine that you just wash your hair as part of your ritual, but you never notice that you’re doing it.

Free Magic Jokes

March 20th, 2008

Man o’ man is my face red! The best way to introduce this post is to remind you that the “standard” magician jokes, antics, routines, bits o’ business are not universally accepted in all ages. Not too long ago, I performed for a group of elderly ladies. They were one of the nicest and sweetest groups of people I’ve ever performed for. However, their take on life is a bit different from ours.

Debunking Criss Angel

December 15th, 2007

I just recently had the strangest gig. I had a youth group leader who had some young men who were “believers” of Criss Angel. This may sound harmless at first, and maybe it is. However, the concern that this leader had was that these young men really believed that Criss Angel had real power and could do real “magic.”

Stone Cold Murderer

July 17th, 2007

Ahhhh. The wonderful art that is translation. With Stone Cold Magic on DVD going world-wide, there have been some exciting and quite funny moments. I just found a website that I believe is Chinese. At the bottom of the site was a “blurb” written in Chinese characters. I ran them through the google translator, and this is how some of the phrases from my ad copy translated: Read the rest of this entry »
