For you magi, be warned this is the personal (non-magician) side of me. Every week on Tuesday – or in the case of this week, Thursday – night, I have a sort of “date night” with one of my kids – or in the case of tonight, two of my kids.
I’ve got four kids, so they each get a night where it’s just me and that one child every four weeks. Tonight was a two-bird-one-Stone (pun couldn’t be more intended) night. I spent some time with my 6 year old son first, then afterward my 14 year old daughter.
Every time I do this, I’m so grateful for what I learn and the bond that grows between me and that child. I let them choose the activity. Tonight my son wanted to play Connect Four, War, and Computer Monopoly. It was a blast, and we truly bonded. I just thought I’d share a quick funny moment from the time with my son. Keep in mind that he’s only 6 years old when you read this. The first round of connect four, I won (it was an accident – that’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it). On the next round he said, “This time, take it easy on me.” For some reason, that strikes me as hilarious coming from a six year old boy.
My daughter wanted to play Chinese Checkers and make friendship bracelets. You can get a nice view of my unfinished masterpiece below. Watching my daughter think through her Chinese Checkers strategy and then following that up with her teaching me to make something I’ve never made before was magical. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, Thank God For Kids!
