If it weren’t for kids have you ever thought,
There wouldn’t be no Santa Claus,
Or look what the stork just brought
Thank God for kids.
And we’d all live in a quiet house
Without Big Bird or a Mickey Mouse
Or Kool-aid on the couch
Thank God for kids.Thank God for kids there’s magic for a while
A special kind of sunshine in a smile
Do you ever stop to think or wonder why
The nearest thing to heaven is a child.
The Oakridge Boys couldn’t have spoken more true words than those.
I’ve got four children, and they are all magical. It’s been amazing to watch them grow over the past 14 years. Wow! Fourteen years! That’s a dang long time. So my oldest daughter (14) is playing the guitar and piano like nobody’s business. The kicker, is that she’s self taught. She certainly didn’t get it from me. My entire family is musically retarded, but not my daughter . . . magical.
My oldest son (11) and I went to lunch the other day for his birthday, and we both had sausage. Upon sinking his teeth into the first bite of sausage, he immediately said, “Man that sausage came from one tender pig!” Don’t ask me why, but I am still laughing at that. It’s the funniest darn thing I’ve heard in a long time . . . magical.
My next son (8) is following in the magical footsteps of dad. He’s gotten pretty serious about learning magic. He’s been obsessed with watching Magic 4 Morons By Lyndel. He watches the video then spends hours practicing the technique, the presentation, the posture, the attitude, everything. It’s fun to watch. When it comes time for the DVD to show the secrets, he scoots the antique arm-chair close to the TV and drapes an over-stuffed down sleeping bag over himself, the chair and the TV so that nobody else can watch the secrets . . . magical.
Finally, we’ve got the little guy (6) who is a fish. Notice I didn’t say he’s “like” a fish. He IS a fish. That’s one of those literary techniques we’ve all long forgotten. We all went swimming today, and this kid just takes to the water like you wouldn’t believe. Watching him bond and become one with the water was, well . . . magical.
Daddy, how does this thing fly?
And a hundred other where’s and why’s
I really don’t know but I try
Thank God for kids. When I look down in those trusting eyes
That look to me I realize
There’s love that I can’t buy
Thank God for kids.Thank God for kids there’s magic for a while
A special kind of sunshine in a smile
Do you ever stop to think or wonder why
The nearest thing to heaven is a child. When you get down on your knees tonight
And thank the Lord for His guiding light
And pray they turn out right,
Thank God for kids.
Thank God for kids.
Who would’ve thought that classic country music held the secret to unlock a parent’s heart. Children Are Magical.
